Enhancing Belize’s Resilience to Adapt to the Effects of Climate Change

What is the project about

EU GCCA Project Logo

This Global Climate Change Alliance (GCCA) funded project (CRIS No: 2010/22545) was developed within the GCCA framework and targets directly climate change governance structures, positioning the Government of Belize (GoB) to effectively plan for and manage the effects of climate change on Belize’s development.  The GCCA project operates as a part of a larger portfolio of initiatives being organized by the newly created climate change office within the Ministry of Forestry, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, and responds to priority areas of action identified in the Caribbean Regional Climate Support Strategy by way of institutional support and creating an enabling environment for natural resources management in light of climate change considerations. It responds directly to Belize’s increased vulnerability which is closely linked to the country’s low adaptive capacity and the country’s increasing dependence on resources sensitive to changes in climate.

Overall Objectives:  The development of a resilient water sector through the promotion of interventions consistent with national priorities and direction; Enhanced Government of Belize institutional capacities for effective climate change governance.

Specific Objective:  To enhance adaptive capacity and resilience to climate change in national policies and demonstrate action in support of effective governance of climate change and climate change related impacts in the water sector.
