    Southside Youth Success Project Drop-in Centre Serving Belize City Youth

    24 young men from Southside Belize City are participating in a five-month programme that will allow them to get life-skills guidance and training for employment including through apprenticeship. They will receive certificates, which will allow them to access opportunities to become employed or to re-enter formal education.

    Launch of the Southside Youth Success Project Drop-in Centre

    The Department of Youth Services and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) partner in the official launch of the Southside Youth Success Project Drop-in Centre. The Centre is part of the Belize City Project, “Southside Youth Success: Pathways to employment for young men at-risk of joining gangs”, being funded by the Central America Regional Security Initiative (CARSI), State Department, United States of America.

    Government and United Nations sign UN Development Assistance Framework

    The United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) was signed by Belize’s Attorney General and Minister of Foreign Affairs and United Nations (UN) Resident Coordinator in Belize. It was developed through a consultative and collaborative effort of the Belize United Nations System, Government institutions, Civil Society and Development Partners. It constitutes the framework of reference for the collaborative actions of the entire UN system in Belize and is anchored to the National Development vision and priorities of the Government of Belize as outlined in national sector plans, policies and strategies.

    Outreach Capacity of Ministry of Human Development Enhanced

    The Ministry of Human Development, Social Transformation, and Poverty Alleviation (MHDSTPA) receives a motor vehicle from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which it is anticipated will enhance the Ministry’s outreach capacity. The motor vehicle is provided under the Global Fund (GF) Round 9 Grant, being implemented by UNDP as principal recipient.

    The “Belize Scorecard and Outlook Report 2010”, in relation to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) was released, revealing that Belize has made significant progress in the last years towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) particularly those related to improving maternal health, reversing the spread of HIV/AIDS and ensuring access to clean water.

    Belize MDG Scorecard and Outlook Report Launch Advisory

    The “Belize Scorecard and Outlook Report 2010” is a comprehensive assessment on the progress made in the last years towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The launching of this report will highlight the main challenges that Belize still faces particularly in relation to poverty reduction, employment generation, access to sanitation and gender equality, and the policies and initiatives aimed at the attainment of the Goals.
