UNDP / MLLGRD Booth at UB Fair Celebrates Earth Day 2012

Apr 18, 2012

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) takes pleasure in informing that together with the Ministry of Labour, Local Government and Rural Development (MLLGRD), both organizations will host visitors at a booth at the University of Belize Fair (Toledo Campus) on Friday, April 20, 2012, as part of activities in Belize celebrating Earth day 2012 under the theme “Mobilizing the Earth”. Earth Day is an ideal time to highlight Belize’s progress on the Millennium Development Goals in general and on MDG 7 – ensure environmental sustainability – in particular, to which the project “Applying MDG Acceleration Framework: Addressing Governance Bottlenecks to Achieve Water and Sanitation Coverage in Belize” contributes.

The booth will focus on information sharing on the MDG Acceleration Framework (MAF) for water and sanitation, and the promotion of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, through interactive activities.

The exposition at the booth complements presentations being done this week by the Ministry’s Rural Community Development Officers (RCDOs) in rural Toledo in collaboration with the Toledo Institute of Development and the Environment and the University of Belize, at primary schools in Rural Toledo. These presentations focus on MAF and the implications and benefits of using water as a natural resource wisely. They also highlight the importance of good governance and hygienic practices of water and how this crucial natural resource is vital to communities in Belize and the world.

Schools, the media, and members of the public are invited to visit the MLLGRD / UNDP Booth.
