Notice of the Community Based Adaptation Programme to BeginDec 13, 2012
The Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF SGP) implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is pleased to advise members of the media of the launch of the Belize Community Based Adaptation (CBA) Programme funded by the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID), Government of Australia.
The CBA Programme seeks to enhance local capacities for adaptation to climate change impacts and to support community level intervention and innovations to adapt to climate change variability within the broader sustainable development context.
The CBA Programme complements national efforts prioritizing climate change adaptation within developmental processes. It aims to: 1. promote climate change related science, based on communities’ cultures, knowledge and values, technology, innovations and applied research and development at a local level; 2. support community level interventions and innovations to adapt to climate change impacts and climate variability within the broader sustainable development context; and 3. enhance local capacities for adaptation to climate change impacts.
The launch will include remarks by UNDP and a presentation on the Belize CBA Programme and remarks by grant recipients, with an opportunity for individual interviews by the media.
In addition, the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme and the Community Management of Protected Areas Conservation Programme (COMPACT) will be awarding thirteen (13) partner organizations which received grants in 2012 with symbolic cheques to mark the occasion.
