The National Committee for Families and Children (NCFC) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is engaging adolescents and youth in using communication for development approaches that will create awareness for behavioral and social change.  One of the targets under Millennium Development Goal Six (6) is to halt and reverse by 2015, the spread of HIV/AIDS. This particular goal includes focusing on increasing knowledge about HIV as the first step in reducing transmission.

It is in this regard that a mass media campaign designed to inform youths about the positive choices they can make in relation to their sexual and reproductive health is being launched.  “Wait and no Worry” informs of the need for delaying early sexual activity and “Choose and Use” informs of the importance of consistent condom usage and partner reduction among sexually active youths.

This mass media campaign is part of the Project “Accelerating the Pace: Reaching Marginalized and Vulnerable Populations with Critical Services”, funded by the Global Fund Against Tuberculosis, AIDS and Malaria (GFATM), Round 9 Grant.  The NCFC and the United Nations Development Programme, on behalf of the Campaign Advisory Committee, take this opportunity to introduce the Mass Media Campaign through a launch at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts in Belize City on Wednesday March 20, 2013 starting at 9 AM.

The launch includes screening of the media products, edutainment and dramatizations by young people from various organizations, elaborated as part of the campaign.  Participants in the programme include Ms. Jay Coombs, Programme Analyst, UNDP and Dr. Martin Cuellar, Executive Director of the National AIDS Commission.
