Belize Gets Millennium Development Goals Database System and Training

In order to support the member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA) in the matter of the provision of an established MDG Information System: on 5th December 2011, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the United Mexican States and the SICA countries, signed onto the project: “Institutional Capacity Building for Mesoamerican Governments on Monitoring and Evaluation of Millennium Development Goals (MDG). The aforementioned “System” would be transferred to SICA countries, within the framework of that project.
The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (Economic Development), Belize, facilitated a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), between the National Institute of Statistics and Geography of Mexico (INEGI), and the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) and the Central Information Technology Office (CITO). The commitment of the MOU is to have INEGI deliver the “System” which includes the source code; database structure; user and technical manuals, as well as to provide technical assistance and training on the “System”.
As part of the fulfillment of the terms of the MOU and with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Belize, representatives from INEGI and AMEXCID will be conducting training in the usage of the MDG database system the week of November 25th to 29th, 2013. This training will take part in two stages: technical support for managing the integration and management of the System will take place on November 25th and 26th, while the technical assistance on the processes and methodologies for monitoring the MDGs will be done from November 27th to the 29th. Both training sessions will be held at the National ICT Centre in Belmopan starting at 9 in the morning.
Various organizations will be represented by two sets of technical personnel to deal with the information technology (IT) infrastructures and with those who would have responsibility to gather and input the information on the various MDG targets and indicators for the country, respectively.
